Novak Djokovic vs Stanislas Wawrinka (Australian Open R16 Preview)

Novak Djokovic had his toughest match of the tournament so far in the 3rd round, but even in that win his serve remained intact as he downed Radek Stepanek 64 63 75. In-fact Djokovic has not been broken even once in his 3 matches here so far.

Stanislas Wawrinka defeated the last American male player left in the draw in his last match, Sam Querrey. Wawrinka has been broken 3 times in his 3 matches here so far, and would not love to meet an in for Djokovic.

Djokovic leads Wawrinka in their head to head meetings 11-2. The 2 victories of Wawrinka over Djokovic came way back in 2006, and since then Wawrinka has won a total of 3 sets over Djokovic in their 10 encounters after 2006. The last time Wawrinka won a set over Djokovic was in 2009, when they met in the quarter-finals of Basel.

Wawrinka is only 18-55 against the top 10 players, and it is tough to see him stopping Djokovic at this point. However, there are certain things that if he does well, he might push Djokovic. He will have to serve consistently well and make a lot of first serves, he has a good first serve. He will also have to go for his back-hand, one of the best back-hands seen in tennis.

However, Wawrinka's mental strength has always been a question, and with Djokovic in this form, I will have to go with Djokovic.

Pick : Djokovic in 3 sets.
